Fellowship with God 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in him. 6 If we say, “We have fellowship with him,” and yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth. 7 If we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say, “We have not sinned,” we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.I John 1:5-10
The Straight Path 20 My son, pay attention to my words; listen closely to my sayings. 21 Don’t lose sight of them; keep them within your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, and health to one’s whole body. 23 Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life. 24 Don’t let your mouth speak dishonestly, and don’t let your lips talk deviously. 25 Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead. 26 Carefully consider the path for your feet, and all your ways will be established. 27 Don’t turn to the right or to the left; keep your feet away from evil.Proverbs 4:20-27
The Christian Life 12 Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive. 14 Above all, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 15 And let the peace of Christ, to which you were also called in one body, rule your hearts. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Christ in Your Home 18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and don’t be bitter toward them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they won’t become discouraged.Colossians 3:12-21
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.James 5:16
Table Discussion
What part of your life are you most tempted to edit, minimize, or conceal from God? What does walking in the light need to look like for you right now? What do you need to confess and receive Christ's forgiveness and cleansing for?
Personal Reflection & Prayer
What do I need to bring into the light before God? God, help me bring you my emotions without editing, my appetites without pretending, and my sin without excuses.
Table Discussion
When you examine your actual habits, where is your life headed? What currently has too much control over your attention or desires? Which area are you most reluctant to discuss: spiritual, physical, sexual, financial, or emotional? Why? What is one path you need to stop taking or one practice you need to begin?
Personal Reflection & Prayer
What is the path I need to leave OR the practice I need to begin? God, give me the courage to examine my actual life and take responsibility for the man I am becoming.
Table Discussion
Who receives the best version of you and who receives what is leftover? Where have bitterness, harshness, busyness, or emotional withdrawal entered your closest relationships? Is there someone you need to forgive, apologize to, or pursue? What step do you need to take? Who knows the unedited version of your life?
Personal Reflection & Prayer
What is one honest conversation I need to have? Who will I invite to hold me accountable to having that conversation? God, help me bring honesty, humility, forgiveness, and presence into my closest relationships.
